Capital Toastmasters in Action

Toastmasters isn't just a club where we give speeches to each other. It's training for real life! Here are some examples of members of Capital Toastmasters I putting their Toastmasters training to work!

Carol Wayman is Senior Legislative Director for the Corporation for Enterprise Development. She testified to the Subcommittee on Finance and Tax of the House Small Business Committee to discuss the Small Business Administration's Capital Access Programs. See her effective and self-assured presentation on the committee web site.

Richard Lobb is the spokesperson for the National Chicken Council (yes, there is such a thing as a National Chicken Council!). He went on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" in early 2009 to debunk reports of an imminent shortage of . . . chicken wings. Video is available on the ColbertNation web site. Lobb comes on about halfway through.

Lobb also appeared recently on UNC-TV, the public television station in Raleigh, N.C., to discuss the movie "Food, Inc." (in which he also appears). The panel discussion is on the UNC-TV web site. Lobb has the first comment.

The Toastmasters program has helped these members learn to deliver their messages with polish and aplomb, and it can help you, too!
